On utilise which pour les objets ou les choses non vivante et who pour désigner une personne
Par exemple :
"A detective is a person who investigates crimes" un détective étant une personne on utilise who.
"An alibi is an excuse which is used by a person to show that he was not on the crime scene"
Un alibi n'est pas une chose vivante donc on va utiliser which.
Les 2 signifient "qui" mais l'un désigne une personne et l'autre un objet, une idée ou juste quelque chose non vivante.
